In this talk, I draw upon my multi-hyphenated experiences as a writer, a literary translator, an artist, and a cultural programs curator to tell my personal journey and (hi)story which have taken me across languages, countries, cultures, cities, media, and genres; transforming translation into an artistic practice or into a common space for diverse voices to create with their own languages. I start with my core belief that one translates with their biography, illustrating how this stance has fed my life and work throughout the years, how it is linked to “movement” in its many definitions, and the opportunities it gives to think about translation in but also outside of the book; always in movement.

Canan Marasligil (she/her) is a feminist writer, literary translator, artist, editor and curator of cultural programmes, whose practice spans from performing to making podcasts. She works in English, French, Turkish and Dutch, occasionally in Spanish, and she is active in the fields of literature, comics, cultural criticism and art. As an intersectional feminist who strives to challenge dominant narratives, she advocates for representation, equality and diversity. She is the creator of City in Translation,  a project exploring languages and translation in urban spaces, and has developed and launched the Creative Translators Workshop for the Read My World International Literature Festival, aiming to create a pool of diverse translators and multilingual storytellers to work with the festival.
